ROSSLAND, B.C. – RED Mountain Resort saw a variety of competitors duel with the slopes of Mount Roberts by picking challenging lines and skiing them with commitment. The result from today’s “pushing the limits” skiing was the conclusion of the semi finals for the Senior (19years+) portion of The North Face Canadian Open Freeskiing Championships.
“Conditions are great right now and with more snow on the way for Saturday‟s finals, the athletes will have a great day.” said Erik Kalacis, RED Mountain Resort‟s General Manager and VP of Sales and Marketing. “With as much as 20-30cms of fresh snow in the forecast, the competitors will have what would amount to a clean slate for competition.”
“The semi finals were great today on Mount Roberts. While there are many new athletes here competing, there too are many familiar faces from last year.” noted Jeff Holden, the Canadian Open‟s head judge. “Tomorrow‟s finals should be a great show with the smaller field of competitors and fresh snow.”
The finals will be taking place on Mount Roberts, RED‟s „side country‟ terrain, followed by the senior athlete banquet, awards and the Kokanee Afterparty in the legendary Rafters bar.
The senior event will see a cash purse of $10,000 up for grabs.
